Hey there, loves! It’s been a few (chaotic, productive, full in many definitions of the word) weeks since I last spoke to you. How are you doing? How are your worlds rotating? Anything new and exciting from your end? :)
As always, my own answer to that question is: “What’s happening? A lot, but not much.” I finished out my time at The Telegraph Mill two weeks, bidding farewell to the land of beans and beer. Jay and I took the loveliest week-long vacation to Colorado Springs: filled with a balance of adventuring mountainous majesty and exploring the urban offerings, it was a much-needed break for the both of us. Upon returning, there’s been a good bunch of things happening.
The biggest announcement is: I am officially moving back to Brooklyn! After residing in the Midwest for the last two years, working gigs here and (both remotely and physically) in New York and Los Angeles, I am returning to the city that trained me. On August 5th, I am officially moving into my new apartment, east of Prospect. While I could not be more excited for this next chapter and all it has to offer, it’s certainly a bittersweet parting. Long distance from those you love is never easeful, even if the relationship is. Reading the final line of a much beloved chapter, peopled with beloved characters, is a lingering feeling of nostalgia for the past and joyous nerves for the future. On top of all the internal emotions, of course, is the simple fact that the logistics of moving halfway across the country (for the fourth time in six years, yay to the nomads) are never fun. The textbook Virgo that I am loves planning and organization, but there is…a lot. That’s perhaps as eloquent as we can get there.
There’s much look forward to, though. I’m so excited to rejoin my closest friends, and to make new ones with my roommates (brilliant artists who I’ve already connected with). I’m delighted by the opportunities that await, many having presented themselves in the last week or two. I’m thrilled to be returning to one of my favorite cities in the world, surrounding myself by the anonymity and the hustle and the kindness and the crazy and the inspiring and the joy. Hell, hiding within the independence nerves, I’m even excited to blaze my own path and fight for that artistry.
Cheers, Sláinte, Prost, and Skål to all of that, am I right?
Now, the classic follow-up question to learning I’m an East Coast dweller is: “What do you do there?” In short, a lot of things. I still work for Barnebys, writing advertorial and editorial copy. I’m an editorial assistant and freelance writer for The Theatre Times. I’m currently working on projects with Notch Theatre Company and fruitlessmoon theatreworks. I’ve got a few upcoming projects that I have to keep secret for now, in a slight NDA moment. Personally, I’m working on quite a few of my own plays, screenplays, prose, and the like: you’re welcome to visit my website for any updates on those (shameless self-plug on my own blog). Additionally, I’ll likely end up working part-time at a museum or bookstore until I can support myself full-time with my writing, dramaturgy, and acting.
*takes intense inhale/exhale* Now that all those fun logistical things are out of the way…;) (And they are fun: all of these projects are incredible!)
